Holm Viertel German Violin (c. 1899)

$14,000.00

Antique German violin handmade by maker Holm Viertel in 1899.

Description

Hand-crafted in 1899, this master instrument features very clean handwork and excellent selections of highly figured maple and spruce. The instrument is described as warm, broad, and powerful.

Holm Viertel was born in Zwickau, Germany in 1865. He trained under Albin Paulus, another well known maker based in what is now modern day Germany. His instruments are known for their bold fashioning on Stradivarian principles. Viertel differed among many other violin makers in that he would place the bass bar after varnishing the violin.
