Roberto Cavagnoli is an Italian violin maker who studied at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, hometown of the Italian Masters, under Giorgio Scolari. After graduating, Roberto went on to work in the workshops of Angelo Sperzagai and Barbara Piccinotti to further develop his skills. In 2001, Cavagnoli went to Australia and worked with American-born and Italian-trained luthier James. W. Robinson. A few years later he moved back to Cremona to continue his partnership with Barbara Piccinotti. Over the years he has won many awards, including the Silver Medal for tone quality from the Violin Society of America and the third prize at the 11th International Competition ‘Triennale’ in Cremona for sound quality.
Roberto was featured in the movie ‘Highly Strung’ (2015), directed by Scott Hicks. Roberto has certainly made a name for himself in the violin making world and continues working out of his workshop in the center of Cremona.
