$4,500.00

Violin bow made by H.R. Pfretzschner in Markneukirchen.

Description

Born in 1857, Heinrich Richard Pfretzschner was one of the most influential bow makers to come out of Germany. His early training/fundamentals was from his father Carl Richard Pfretzschner. Around 1874, he went on to work in the J.B. Vuillaume shop, and apprenticed under the well known archetier Fran├žois Nicolas Voirin. In 1880, H.R. Pfretzschner started his own shop in Markneukirchen, still showing great influence of Voirin’s teaching creating almost exact copies until around the turn of the century. In 1901 he was granted the title “purveyor of bows to the royal court of Saxony” and from then on began to stamp his frogs with the saxon coat of arms.

This silver mount bow has beautifully figured abalone frog and a firm, strong stick that sings with ease.
