Description
Born in Mirecourt in 1820, Charles Adolphe Maucotel was one of the most prolific French makers of the 19th century. After his initial apprenticeship in Mirecourt, Charles joined the workshop of J.B. Vuillaume at the age of 19, where he stayed for 5 years, becoming his main collaborator. In 1844 Maucotel started his own workshop in the Galerie Vivienne in Paris. His violins are known for their outstanding handwork, often having a deep red-brown varnish.
