Fine Vuillaume workshop violin made by Charles Buthold

Description

Charles Louis Buthod was a French luthier born in Mirecourt in 1810. In 1830 Charles had been employed in the workshop of J.B. Vuillaume and eventually rose to the rank of foreman. Buthod returned to Mirecourt in 1840 to start his own workshop where he made violins cellos and bows and in 1848 he partnered to create the Husson-Buthod Workshop. The two luthiers joined Louis Emile Jérôme Thibouville in 1857 and after many years of success the company was branded as Jérôme Thibouville Lamy Workshop in 1866. The JTL firm was directed by Buthod for years.
