Description
This 16″ Thomas Fawick viola is a exemplary viola for an advanced player and is made with stunning birds eye maple. This viola was made in 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona. Fawick was an inventor, art collector, and self-taught violinist that owned two Stradivarius violins. He became interested in crafting his own violins and in the 1940’s, created a workshop. The shop employed workers from Hellier in France, where the instruments were carved and prepared for finishing, which were then sent back to Fawick’s shop to be finished and varnished. Fawick, being an inventor, developed a treatment that accelerated the aging of wood and kept the instrument even-tempered in fluctuating temperatures.
