Kurt Mönnig, the maker of this cello was a relative of William Moennig, who was a German violin maker that opened a famed shop in Philadelphia in 1909. The shop, William Moennig & Son, was open for 100 years and was frequented by famous musicians including Itzhak Perlman, Jascha Heifetz, and Isaac Stern. This cello was made in 1935 and was sold at William Moennig & Son. Having been placed in such an acclaimed shop is a testament to the instrument’s quality. This cello has a clear, powerful sound.
